Rovos Electric Traction in Action!
The Pyramid Photter was once again on hand to scoop the first known pics of the newly electrified Rovos Rail service.
On duty for a lunch train around the city, the clean green 5E1 machine makes a pretty sight as she skirts the northern suburbs of the city.

I wasn't a fan of the new livery when I first saw it, but the loco does look good at the head of a passenger train!

Who was driving? Was it TFR or one of the Rovos drivers?

Mike, who knows, if we were still in South Africa we might have added Electric Train Assistant to our Fireman qualifications! There's a challenge for Nathan and Tony - and for Gabor a return to the past...

Rovos drivers. They all have electric qualification.
The loco is shunted onto the head of the train, then the shunter pushes the train out under the wires from where the juice takes over.
I believe the 5E1s are only doing the Tshwane loop. The legitimacy of their use is still under question.

Is there any particular reasons why the 5E1's legitimacy is under question? Just wondering!
Re: Rovos Electric Traction in Action!
Would be really awesome to see 2 5E1's at the head of a passenger train

Those Loco's are probably in better condition than some of Transnets old 6E's
