What do the icons on the left mean?
I also find the AeroRed very attractive and compliments my Vista theme well, BUT, I don't always know what the different icons mean next to a message in your inbox or a forum, where can I find a key to this? (I have figured that an animated arrow means that a post is unread)

Re: Can I change the appearance of the forum?
Good question, Luca. I don't know where there is a complete key, but I've figured out the following (I think!):
Blue flashing arrow - new post
Rectangular blue icon - unread
Rectangular pale brown icon - read
Yellow triangle - sticky post
Blue circle - announcement
Small red cross on icon - you have posted to this topic
Small star on icon - more than one page of posts
Paper clip - attachment
Any more?

A sticky post is one that stays near the top. I think only administrators can make one.

Yes, the only option we 'normal' people have is to bookmark a topic, it seems that the only place where you can see what pages you have bookmarked is in the user account panel.

Yes, that seems to be true. There's a FAQ post on bookmarks.

With AeroRed since the software upgrade I've noticed that the little icon at the left next to a new message is sometimes blue and sometimes red. Can anyone work out what these colours signify? I have no idea.

John,
The red identifies forums containing unread topics and also topics that are unread. I am busy fixing the icons to make them consistent in colour and meaning.

I found this link to Icon colour/style explanations - if you are using Prosilver. I have not found an explanation for aerored yet.

I see from a quick internet search that AeroRed has "custom icons". Does this mean that they are totally under Steve's control? What power! If so, maybe Steve can give us a run down of what they all mean when he's finished fixing them.

Re: What do the icons on the left mean?
So you see now why I prefer the ProSilver scheme.
There are still so much to read in this forum.
The small red icon says that there are unread topics and I work through them from time to time. Therefore it can happen that I write my comments to pictures or something else which are sometimes older than a year.
And when here the day was that the ProSilver didn't work, I missed the small icons and it was easy for me to find ouit where was a new post or what I still hadn't saw.
If the icon is blue, there is now new posting and I know I saw all.

Andreas, please continue replying to some of those old threads as you discover them. It gives an opportunity for those of us who saw them first time round a couple of years ago to revisit them. There are some superb pictures on this forum. Some are technically excellent photographs. Others might not win a RailPictures.Net prize but show interesting features of railway operation, and particularly steam preservation - the recent sequence showing Gabor dismantling 3117's stoker motor, for example. Still others provide a unique historical record.

Re: What do the icons on the left mean?
Steve, in "View active topics" some of the unread icons on the left are red and some are blue. Am I missing something, or is it a glitch, or is it something that you have to set forum by forum and you haven't got round to doing them all yet?
Eg just now this one was blue and this one was red.

If you "mouse over" i.e. park your cursor on the icons for a short bit, it generally comes up and tells you what they are......
