East African Railways and Tanganyika's giraffe
I learned something new chatting to the blokes at Nairobi Railway Museum today. British Tanganyika had a giraffe as it's symbol (picture 1). This was reflected in an early East African Railways and Harbours shield, along with Kenya's lion and Uganda's crested crane (picture 2). However at some point they decided they didn't like the giraffe and replaced it with a flaming torch, seen in a later East African Railways Corporation shield (picture 3).

Re: East African Railways and Tanganyika's giraffe
Interesting photos John.
I remember the somewhat goofy looking giraffe!
Did it get changed around Independance Time or just thereafter? Ie. Early to mid '60's?
