Re: FOTR derailment photos 1
Thank God that no one was hurt. I hope that 3117 is not badly damaged and will be up and running soon.
Re: FOTR derailment photos 1
A good thing no one was hurt, I'm not going to argue that, but what an awful sight to see this beautiful loco lying on one ear

Sorry to see this...
Hope all goes well from now on and the engine is not too bad.

Oh my gosh! I'll never buy anything made from railway sleepers! Sincerely hope 3117 is restored to her customary glory as soon as possible. Also most relieved that there were no injuries.

Looks like track inspections are going to have be the order of the day.
Makes me think of when I was a relief (RR) station foreman at Sarahuru and having
to do all the paper orders for the railcars that ran up and down doing anti terr track protection
and inspection, and DE3s with sand bagged DSIs in front. Sad that Rhodesian Teak could be
more or less freely available if there were better governments!

Re: FOTR derailment photos 1
Thanks, Chris, for your first post to the forum - welcome! For the time being we will stop the train before this particular curve in a cutting and check the track ourselves on foot before proceeding, but that's probably locking the stable door after the horse has bolted. I expect to be fireman on our first train back to Cullinan after the incident, next week, possibly with the same driver, so we will both be very conscious of it.

Re: FOTR derailment photos 1
Chris, as an ex-Rhodesian resident, I do remember seeing the trains always propelling a couple of open wagons (equivalent to the South African DZs), filled with sand up-front, on the Umtali to Salisbury (Mutare to Harare) section. The drivers used to call them their "gardens" because of all the weeds growing in them.
"To train or not to train, that is the question"
