Sishen Saldanha Bay Orex Line

Post by Robert McDonald »

Greetings from Port Townsend. I write a rail blog www.oil-electric.com and am currently writing an article on the Orex line.
I've posted part I:

http://www.oil-electric.com/2010/10/b-w ... art-i.html

and am seeking assistance in completing part II pertaining to rail operations.
These are issues I need help with:

1. A track profile diagram Saldanha to Sishen.
2. Photo of motor bike and compartment on 9E's.
3. Current number of trains per day.
4. Ore car GT type CR -? currently assigned.
5. Current axle loading.
6. Trip time one way.
7. Ore car manufacturer
8. Purpose of mysterious "tripod" on idler cars at SB.
9. Machine Room layout of new 15E's.
10. Current locomotive arrangement.

I would think the use of idler cars whilst pushing ore cars through rotary dumper would be a prudent practice. Not only do they afford improved visibility for engineer (driver), but may also prevent a million dollar accident such as occurred not once but twice at the Robert's Bank BC Coal facility:

Thank you for your consideration, looking forward to positive responses!
Regards
