On Thursday I caught the Shosholoza Meyl tourist class from Johannesburg to Cape Town.

The train had a baggage van behind the electric loco's

Then 5 sleeper coaches and the ( green ) dining car and ( green ) kitchen car

then 9 sitter class coaches

and right at the back a power (generator) coach

no cars carried on this train. The Sleeper class was not full but the sitter class was.

Hi Alan, have they converted the tourist class coaches to work from the generator as well, since I do not see a steam car for heating. Without heating it must have been bloody cold! Otherwise how did you find the general service on the train? I see they have canceled the Trans Orange from CPT-DUR, uge pity so now wondering if it is worthwile traveling via JHB. Cheers Morne
