It seems that Gautrain are being very quiet about this. No information seems to be available about how or why this occurred.

I've seen speculation that it was either a shunting accident or that it hit someone on the line.

If it did hit somone (presumably a person or persons) I'd hate to see the damage done to that someone given this much damage done to the leading end!
