Krugersdorp (millsite)

Post by Dylan Knott »

Does anyone have a list of what exactly is at Krugersdorp (Millsite) shed.

Locos.
Coaches.
Wagons.
Infrastructure.
Misc items.
Trolleys.
etc

This would be in the compound and locos scattered around outside.

Geoff Pethick is the man to ask. He is usually very informed there.

There is plenty there, just a problem to move it, as most loco bearings have been stolen. There is also an electric unit and some nice locomotivers.

If you are after Electrics there are two at Danskraal (1E and ES) and three 5E1's at Metro Salt River ERS.

Kevin, we already have an old suburban electric motor coach at CPK which we will try to move to Hercules in March. It could do witha coat of paint and some cosmetic restoration.

Dylan, we've often speculated and/or dreamed of this! Restoration of this vehicle is not at the top of our list of priorities at the moment (priorities which are dominated by our enforced move from Capital Park to Hercules and the need to raise as much money as possible from operating as many trains as possible in order to finance that move) but it's there as a longer-term possibility if there are people who are interested. Our current working members, apart from being snowed under with existing priorities, are not that interested in electric traction, but maybe it could attract a different team of new working members who would like to get stuck in to it? Who knows, maybe even the Funkey diesel which Damrail is lending us will form the nucleus of a new group of members interested in diesels?

Our motor coach is 15070, in case anyone is interested. Full details of all our vehicles can be found on the main FOTR website. Hold your mouse on "About us" on the menu along the top, then "Engines and Rolling Stock" on the drop down menu, then click on "Other rolling stock".
