Photos of motive and rolling stock, stations, signals and anything else train related in U.K. & Ireland! Photos should be 800x600 pixels, maximum size 130K. Very good ones will be moved to the Online Gallery, the rest will be pruned away after 14 days to conserve space.

LMS Streamlined Pacific "Duchess of Hamilton" at Shildon

Post by Ian Roberts »

Restreamlined 4-6-2 "Duchess of Hamilton".
This loco was streamlined when built and spent most of its operational life with the streamlining removed.
Built for the LMS London to Glasgow Services my personal opinion is that it was a more impressive loco that the six A4's on display down the road at York.

If you have ever watched the TV series 'Poirot', this looks just like the locomotive they use as a stylized image in the opening sequence.

A thought prompted by your location in Vermont:

The Duchess of Hamilton actually spent 3 years in the USA although painted as class leader 6220 "Coronation"

She had been sent to the 1939 Worlds Fair, but the start of WW2 intervened before shipping space could be spared to bring her back to Britain until 1942.

I found the intro to Poirot on You Tube.
Most of it looks like a stylized LNER A4 with the letters LNER on the tender, but I agree the front seems more bulbous than the A4.
