The couplers always fascinate me. If you think of the strain on it as it holds the coaches together safely and over all gradients. Amazing. The FOTR logo has the buffers clasped in a hand shake!

When I worked at DB Shenker, we built a fleet of bogie ballast wagons, which involved fitting this type of knuckle coupler. These weighed an absolute TON,and were very scary and awkward to handle.
One careless move and you would certainly lose some fingers !!
