On Monday Rovos diesel no 1562D was operating, shunting in the depot. Nos DD2355, DD2357, DD2358 and DD2359 were standing by the loco shed. I think there is a sixth loco but we couldn't find it.
The couplers on the new locos are too low and are currently being modified. I think 1562 is the only one fitted for vacuum brakes; the others will have vacuum exhausters installed. We understand that these locos are to run on Rovos Rail's Dar es Salaam trains.
25NC no 3533 was in steam, as was FOTR's 19D no 2650, which we had lent to Rovos the previous day.
Eight other diesels, belonging to Genrail, were standing in the FOTR part of Capital Park: AB1501, AB1502, A1202, AD1520, AD1521, NJ1602, NJ1605 and 1251. The two NJ numbers are single-end cab locos, and 1251 is for spares.

At 67 tonnes too light to be of much practical use. OK if you have wet spaghetti for track, like these were designed to run over
Rumours that the lightweight ex Australian 1720 Class GL18C in the DRC are too light for their application

Re: Rovos diesels
Incidentally, Rovos Rail also has a Cowans steam crane in their shed. I didn't get its number and couldn't ascertain its condition, but it looks pretty complete.
