Twenty thousand litres

Post by John Ashworth »

During the last few years the water column at Cullinan has been out of commission and we had to take an auxiliary water tank with us on every trip. Now, thanks to a new lessee at Cullinan Station, we have been allowed to rehabilitate the column - thanks to Robert Dadford for doing most of the work.

Water, wonderful water. The column at Cullinan has been reinstated once more, and the timeless scene of a locomotive watering can, once again, become reality. For about three years, the water supply was disconnected, and with new ownership of the station, permission was given to repair. The hard work being carried out by Robert Dadford. Viewed from the tender of 19D number 2650.

Strongly flows the stream of life. A powerfull column of water gushed into the hungry tender of 2650 as she stands at Cullinan after having had her fire cleaned.

50 litres of Grey acrylic roof paint, paint rollers with extended handles, a few brushes and a train, we can start painting up the column. Any paint donations?

And we must paint our logo and our internet address (the new correct one!) on the side of the tank - the station owner has no problem with that.

I was told by Liela, I think it was, at Cullinan on Sat 6th, that the column was to be painted and branded by Windhoek beer.

She's changed her tune then - when we met her and her husband a few months ago to discuss rehabilitating the column they agreed on having our logo there.

Yeh, well, no, fine... Given the personality, one may be true and then again, the other may be true! Same place, different day. She added that Castle was going to brand the southern end of the station: the Cullinan beer wars!! I will believe it when I see it: particularly the two warring brands voluntarily juxtaposed.
