This is a photo of U-660 taken at Midland Junction on 19 September 1965

There were about five of these locos plus the Midland 4-4-0 No 5 in a line on the other side of the main line from the dump.

As far as I know all these locos came direct from UK after the war having been shipped direct from the builders as war surplus.

They were held as oil burners in case of coal shortages.

Hello Ian, the WAGR U class were from the same batch/Class of loco's that went to Sudan, However I believe they were excess ot the requirements so the were held in England until WAGR expressed interest and bought a number of them.
