Sorry should have mentioned that the accident happened near Cossonay station close to Penthalaz in Kanton Vaud. The main line from Lausanne to Yverdon and Vallorbe runs through this station.

The reasons for this accident are at this time unknown. However, the SBB are investigating and will be questioning the two crew members who were injured. The shunting locomotive was recovered late last night, with the help of an 80 tonne lifting capacity crane, in an operation that lasted 1.5 hours and all without disruption to the train traffic both after the accident and during the recovery. The recovery was delayed because part of the locomotive was sitting over a gas supply main. The locomotive is now being prepared for transhipment to a workshops for inspection and repair.
