Horse manure on the London Underground

From an historical article on the 150th anniversary of the London Underground in The Railway Magazine, March 2013, p 46:
London had huge amounts of horse manure to deal with and the Met[ropolitan Railway] made money by transporting it away to the farms of Buckinghamshire.
