South Shore Line 2

The South Shore Line is an electric railway from South Bend IN to Chcago IL.

It has quite a lot of interest. There are areas where it runs in the middle of the street, quite impressive as this is not a light rail tram system but heavy rail six-car EMUs. At times it runs parallel to but separate from the main line, where freight trains can be seen. Elsewhere it runs completely by itself as a single line railway through wooded countryside, and nearer to Chicago it joins the main commuter network. From the train you can see plinthed steam, diesel and electric locos (I didn't manage to photograph the latter) as well as military paraphernalia at the airport. On one occasion there is a ninety degree crossing of another line.
