As a son of a railwayman, it’s something I’ve always believed in – a nationally owned rail service.
The Tories rushed through the privatisation of rail by John Major before the 1992 general election.
Even Thatcher thought it was a terrible idea – splitting up British Rail so the franchised services were sold to the highest bidder...
