Class 32-002 type GE U18C1

Post by Theuns du Preez »

Good Afternoon,

Where can i get the complete history of the 32-002 Locomotive that was employed in South West Africa? My father have the original numberplate that he brought back from Windhoek in 1977 and he would like to know more about it.

Thank you

Incidentally, have you tried the Wikipedia page?

Hi John,

Thanks for the welcome. I have looked at the wiki page and found some interesting info. I am more interested in the actual history of the specific locomotive. As far as my father can remember, 32-002 derailed sometime in the 70's.

On the wiki page there is a locomotive plinthed in Windhoek. According to the description, it is 32-002 bearing the numberplate of 32-001.

I tried to post a picture of the numberplate but I am BC (Before Computers)

Thanks for clarifying, Theuns.

On posting a photo, that is a peculiarity of the forum. When we set it up many of our members were BC, as you say, and were using very slow internet connections, so we separated the discussion pages from the photo pages, so that discussions could take place without having to wait for a lot of photos to load on slow internet connections. You can post a picture as an attachment on the photo gallery for South African diesel locomotives, at http://www.friendsoftherail.com/phpBB2/ ... .php?f=143

Go to that link, then click "New Topic". Give it a title and some text, then scroll down to the section which says "Upload attachment" and click "Choose file". That should open a box which allows you to choose a file from your computer. Then click "Submit". Let me know if you have any problems.
