Network Rail warns against taking selfies on tracks

The stupidity of the great British public is often breathtaking. Last week I saw an article somewhere pointing out that in the rest of Europe railway tracks are not fenced and often run alongside roads and footpaths, but folk are apparently aware that large, heavy, fast metal objects tend to hurtle along the tracks and so they don't wander onto the railway line. Children seem to have been taught this lesson too. Why is it different in the UK?
