Reconstruction Of 115km Malawi-Mozambique Branch Line On Track
The much-delayed reconstruction of the 72km line linking Nsanje in Malawi and Mutarara in Mozambique is due to begin this month following the appointment of a new contractor for the job. The Malawian government gave the green light to the project this week, some 18 months since the presidents of both countries, Mozambique’s Filipe Nyusi and Malawi’s Lazarus Chakwera, officiated at a stone-laying ceremony to mark the start of the project. The delay in starting the works was due to unspecified irregularities discovered with engineering Mota Engil, the company first awarded the contract on tender, Mozambican news site 360 reports. The work has since been awarded to a Chinese firm and is expected to last 18 months...
