Rehabilitation Of Railway Line From Victoria Falls To Chingola
The project to rehabilitate approximately 1029 km of railway track, from the border with Zimbabwe in the south (Livingstone) to the border with DCR (Dem. Rep. of Congo) (Chingola) in the north, is being implemented in two phases. The project involves the rehabilitation of the track superstructure, as well as, the installations of telecommunication and signalling systems, in addition to the procurement of rolling stock and other equipment to increase the carrying capacity of Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL). The project will allow the Zambian railway operator, ZRL to increase its carrying capacity and traffic speed on the line (50 km/h and 80 km/k variable) in order to handle increased traffic demands on the railroads. This will transform Zambia into a transnational hub in the “SADC” region (Southern African Development Community) with better regional integration through improved railway infrastructure...
