Danish Railway Museum

Post by John Ashworth »

The Danish Railway Museum (Danmarks Jernbanemuseum) is in the town of Odense, the third largest town in Denmark. Odense is pronounced in a way that bears no resemblance whatsoever to the letters o-d-e-n-s-e in any non-Scandinavian language. It's about 90 minutes from Copenhagen on an Intercity train and is a pleasant day trip. The museum is in the old roundhouse right next to the station.

See link

Hans Christian Andersen's house is in the same town a few minutes walk away.

I was there in the early 80's and it was interesting to note the stripes painted on the funnels. I guess with such low temperatures outdoors, the paint would not blister. I not too how they create light when there is no sun, with that huge silver reflector thingey!
