An article in RAIL (Issue 599 August 27-September 9 2008, p68) about the preservation of 1960s-vintage diesel locomotive number 50044 entitled "OTMR installation brings 50044 Exeter's main line comeback closer" mentions that:
New tyres have been bought from South Africa...
