Susan. Steam Loco based at Germiston. 1980's
During 1985 and 86 I was stationed at Germiston and there was a stunning steam loco that was named Susan (At least I think she was). She was used to shunt trains (I particularly remember her shunting the PTA coach onto the Trans Natal) and lived on a short section of rail just in front of the platforms. Whatever happened to her? anybody know? Any photographs? I hope that somehow she found a new home and didnt end up as razor blades.
Not quite on the rails.

Susan I am pleased to say still resides in Germiston. The last remaining 12AR, she is under the care of Reefsteamers and is a popular locomotive. She is currently under boiler and other repairs but is expected back in service in the next few months. She will no doubt form the backbone of RS motive power to Magaliesburg during the year- being handfired she is cheaper on coal.

Thanks Chris,
I always remember she was spotless and was always worth admiring. I am pleased she is still with us and I hope one day to see her again. I am hoping to do a RF trip next month to Magaliesburg so its going to be a nostalgic trip for me, esp if Susan is there. It is odd how she stuck in my mind over 20 years later.

I would, but Pretoria is a bit out of my range, I had surgery a few weeks back and am still trying to recover so have had to curtail my excursions considerably. I am going to join Reefsteamers though, it will be interesting to see Germiston after so many years.

I saw Susan today again after 23 years and she still loooks good. It was kid of strange to see her after so long, and to see that she is still capable of running and will be back on her feet once her repairs are completed. Reefsteamers was amazing, I couldnt believe what I saw there compared to Millsite, and the team there love those machines to bits.
