That's not exactly what I was expecting, but it looks fantastic, and Luca is right - This 5E1 stands a better chance of being kept clean than any of TFR's 6E1s or 18Es in purple!

Not what I expected either! I thought it would be a more refined and discrete!

Bright and cheerful, but still refined, I think. Since Rovos Rail has so many international passengers, it's nice to see the national flag on the locomotive.

Kevin, apart from using the same green background, it doesn't. The frames of the coaches are painted white, whilst the loco frame is yellow. That looks mismatched when at the head of a rake of Rovos coaches. In addition the yellow body stripe looks strange and contrived because it is not carried through onto the coach bodies.
CJ's photos at http://www.friendsoftherail.com/phpBB2/ ... 138&t=5884 illustrate the problem perfectly.

This is so weird - more so as ROVOS are usually so good when it comes to attention to detail and execution...........

THe engine would have looked classy very easily with matching coach colours and reduced flag etc...
