100 year old 2-8-0 comes back to life...

West Virginia Steam is slowly bringing a 100 year old loco back to life.

At the present moment the boiler and frame are now being reconditioned.

The loco, a 2-8-0 was built in 1906 by Baldwin, and operated by the West Virginia Northern as No 9, between 1906 and 1956. Following service it then sat in a Pennsylvanian forest.

The boiler has been the main stumbling block to rebuilding, as it is of riveted construction.

IN 1999, Sisterville Tank Work, after extensive research built a riveted boiler for Cass Scenic’s Hestler No 6 – this same company is now able to recondition the boiler for WVN No 9.
