The Metropolitan Transport Agency of Quebec has just announced its intentions to electrify all 5 of its routes starting in 2011.
Electrification will take place at roughly 10 miles per year. Dual power locomotives have already been ordered – ALP-45DP – 20 units for delivery in 2012, with an additional 10 to follow in 2013.
The ALP-45DP is made by Bombardier and is a dual power loco – using either electricity or diesel.
