Paint donated by Crown Paints, and new cushions for driver and fireman. The maroon paint on the boiler, cab and tender is OK so it was decided there was no need to repaint, just to clean and polish. Smokebox, buffer beams and many smaller parts will be repainted. The yellow and black lining will probably be repainted too.

Today the fitters were not on duty, only a painter. In the fast-moving world of heritage railways, it has now been decided that the boiler will be painted.

Why anyone would choose white for the ceiling of a steam engine cab is beyond me, but it's the authentic heritage colour, I'm told, and I must say it looks good when fresh.
