Best looking and ugliest electrics in SA

Post by Rob Jamieson »

In my opinion the best look electric locomotive in service at present in South Africa is the class 7E and 7E2. They really look sexy when compared to the ugly modular designs like the 14E, 10E and 7E1. What do the rest of you railway buffs out there think.

I was never a lover of the old 3E's they always looked as if the top half wasnt supposed to be on the bottom half, and the cow catcher just didnt do it justice. I havent seen any of these new fangled toasters so am quite content to admire the 5E's and 6E's.
Not quite on the rails.

Cannot find anything sexy abot electic locos. Diesels stir a railway passion, but the juice took all the spice out of railways!
Having said that, I still go out and shoot 7Es on the lines radiating from Pyramid South...

Rob, I really like that pic of the Blue Train 6E1 you have as your profile picture. Would you mind emailing it to me? hiltoncam@msn.com

If you have any other pix of the Old livery Blue Train locos, I'd appreciate it if you could send to me or post here in the forum.

Best looking loco is definitely the 6E1 - hands down :D

best wishes,
Hilton

Hilton

I have a few photos which might be of interest to you. I can't seem to be able to send (PM or EMAIL) them to you on this site. Give me you e-mail address and I will e-mail them to you directly.

The class 6E1(now upgraded to class 18E which is also good looking) and class 5E. Having grown up living next to a railway line, those were the locos that always came through my neighbourhood.
