3117: chains and a compensating beam

Post by John Ashworth »

Nathan wrote:The first step prior to the examination of the locomotive by Stich Versteeg, ex railways and museum, was to place the locomotive over the inspection pit. The chain around the compensating beam had to be removed and replaced as it belonged to the breakdown crew. A series of photos follows of how the air-operated 50 tonne jacks lift the loco frame sufficiently to get the beam relaxed and the chain removed and replaced.
