French Strike Chaos 18th October 2010

I travelled to Paris from Angers in the Loire valley this morning.

My booked train was the Nantes - lille TGV which goes via Charles de Galle Airport as I was taking a flight to Manchester.

Refinery workers are also on strike so, as my daughters car which should have taken us to the station in Angers had no fuel we had to borrow a car on short notice to get there and then hope for a train to Paris Montparnass with a connecting bus to the airport.

We could have got Metro Tokens and RER tickets to make the connection but I felt it was a less risky transport option to use the bus.

Security at the airport was very tight and I think it was about the most through search I have undergone anywhere.

Now parked in the Holiday Inn Express in Chester with a view of the Chester rail line west of the city.

Nor seen a train so far and the wibdows are fairly sound proof. Not like 40+ years ago with two different night trains to London going in opposite directions on different routes.
