Driving along by the side of a beautiful lake near Ticonderoga, New York state, imagine our delight to find a track machine parked in a siding by the side of the road - no fence, no guards, nobody in sight, nothing. I wonder how long it would have survived like that in South Africa, or the UK for that matter. Leaving the wives chatting in the back of the car we proceeded to investigate. We also inspected the track for them, and would have failed the line in the last photo - this is the main line, not the siding!
