Re: Kenya: crane
EAR No. 1013 Ordered by Crown Agents for the Kenya Uganda Rly., it probably ran as their No. 25.
Originally a hand crane of 20 ton capacity, on ten wheels, ( six fixed and four wheel bogie ) and built by Cowans Sheldon, Carlisle as works no. 4582 of 1927. There used a few years ago to be a plate on the rear of the cab noting the CS 4582 information.
Diesel conversion 1955; jib replaced / repaired / lengthened in ca. 1956 at Nairobi Workshops.
Probably de-rated from 20 ton to 15 ton capacity at this time.
A couple of EAR archive photographs show it as a hand powered crane.
An amazing survivor to still be in working condition.
