Due to cable theft, Gautrain becomes steam-hauled. Cartoon in Beeld, Johannesburg, newspaper 17 August 2011.

As cartoons go, that gives a pretty good overall impression of a South African steam locomotive.

Indeed so, John. Pity that the Gautrain coaches were not portrayed quite as accurately!

So where did a newspaper find a cartoonist who actually knows what a 12AR looks like?!

Did he even know it was a 12AR or what one of those is? I suspect he drew the loco using a picture on hand as a model.
