Race events between steam trains and road runners have been held in past years both in Witbank and Port Elizabeth. Now KwaZulu-Natal is getting in on the act with a “Great Train Race†taking place between Inchanga and Hillcrest on Saturday 24 September 2011. Groups of athletes are to compete in a relay road race against Umgeni Steam Railway’s class 3BR on a passenger train. No 1486 was supplied together with nine similar 4-8-2 locos by the North British Locomotive company in Glasgow in 1912.
