Steam returns to North Borneo tourist line
The Malaysian territory of Sabah, on Borneo, has been without its steam tourist train for six years - but, happily, the train is returning to service.
The North Borneo Railway is a joint project between the Sabah State Railway Department and Sutera Harbour Resort, aiming to give tourists an experience of British North Borneo's bygone era.
The railway line runs from Tanjung Aru through the small towns of Kinarut, Kawang and Papar, during a three-hour return trip.
The refurbished locomotives were built by Vulcan Foundry, in Britain, and give passengers a real feel of stepping back into a bygone era.
The train service - which runs every Wednesday and Saturday - costs RM 250 for adults and RM 150 for children (aged between two and 12).
