Herewith is a VIDEO LINK (via Facebook), of the locomotive being turned on the round-house turntable, and sounding its rather haunting steam whistle . . .

She looks very different from the standard USATC S160 No 3540 built by Baldwin in 1944
Interesting what a new chimney and cab, plus repositioning the air pump can do to the appearance of a locomotive.

Re: MAV 411.118 steam locomotive returns to active duty
Good evening Ian!
Embarrassingly, and shamefully, I must admit that I don't know as much as I need to know about Hungarian State Railway (MAV) steam locomotives. I know a lot more about SAR locomotives, as I have grown up in South Africa!
Since the advent of the internet, I have learn small bits and bobs about MAV steam locomotives, about people working on and with them, but not nearly enough to make any justifiable comments!!!!
I hope to, within the next 12 months, have an opportunity to return once again to Budapest, so actually see these and other MAV steam locos in operation, probably at next years Hungarian Steam Grand Prix!

Gabor,
The USATC S160's were very widely distributed after the war as they were generally too small for use in the United States being built to the British loading gauge.
About 2600 of this class were built between 1942 and 1945 and the known distribution is as follows:
Austria 30
Greece 52
Turkey 50
Jugoslavia 66
Hungary 510
Czechoslovakia 80
Poland 575
South Korea 101
China 40
Tunisia 6
Algeria 25
Morocco 4
Italy 224
India 60 (Regauged)
Russia 200 (Regauged)
Alaska 12
USA 7
Jamaica 2
It is interesting that the Hungarian locos were used for main line goods, while the Polish engines were used as shunters.
