Kenya Railways had 11 Spoornet diesels on long lease - they were numbered 9501-9511 ex Spoornet 34.470-76/78-80/69 in that order.

They were in Kenya from 1994 until 2002.

All returned to South Africa and are back in service.

In response to the question about whether the 2002 Loco Guide is still available - it is, Jean Dulez has copies locally in SA (Box 75169, gardenview 2047) and there are stocks in the UK and USA.

Went out onto the Lydenburg branch during my last trip to SA (25 August 2007) and found this spot about 10 km from Steelpoort (30 minutes before sunset), steeply downhill and wouldn't have given it a second look in steam days !
