Kevin, do you or anyone else know if 9503 was an ex-Spoornet loco? There's a query about it on the East African Steam Yahoo group.

Kenya Railways had 11 Spoornet diesels on long lease - they were numbered 9501-9511 ex Spoornet 34.470-76/78-80/69 in that order.
They were in Kenya from 1994 until 2002.
All returned to South Africa and are back in service.
