Gauteng Springs Accident

Post by Kevin Wilson-Smith »

Co-incidentally yesterday there then was a second accident, this time involving Metro trains
between the New Era and the Pollack Park stations on the way to Springs.

This collision occurred at about 17:20.

The train in front was partially derailed.

131 injuries were reported, 3 serious. No deaths.

Cause is not yet known, but this was a rear ender.

A Metro spokesman this morning said they were investigating and that the two accident s were not linked in any way.

Kevin, if you hear more and particularly WHY the accident happened I would like to know. Because of the signalling system it should not be possible to rear-end unless the driver passed a red signal or a signal was faulty. I know the papers often get things wrong.
