Capital Park - plovers

Post by John Ashworth »

This plover (kiewiet) has been nesting on the ground at Capital Park right next to where the loco stands while the passengers are boarding our trains. We put a few bricks around to warn people not to accidentally tread on the nest. On the morning of 24/09/07 the plover was still sitting on the nest when the train departed. By the time we got home in the evening, the chicks had hatched. They're very well camouflaged. One is in the foreground of the photos, a short distance from the mother. The other is hiding under her tail and can't be seen in the photos.
