A hodge podge of N-Gauge

I have been tinkering with my new secondhand N-Gauge. I picked it up for less than that price of a loco, it included heaps of rails, buffers, 5 points, a changeover, analogue powerpack and other assorted switches and goodies. There were also 4 European style coaches but no loco. The track and components were Minitrix, the coaches were Fleischmann and I have a small 0-6-0 shunting engine which I bought ages ago which is an Atlas (I call it "the nervous one" because it shakes like crazy when pulling a long train), and I have now bought a 2-10-0 steam loco 2nd hand too. I also have a Fleischman starter set arriving in May sometime so I can play trains galore. I wont be doing the "this is what it looks like now..." pics, but want to experiment with photographing the train in motion.

The nervous one

Derek, you make me jealous! I've been picking up odd bits and pieces of N-gauge stuff for many years now. Some of it is my sister's place in UK, some in Kenya, but I have been too nomadic to get it all together and actually start building a layout. One day...

But it looks as if next time I come back to South Africa to fire a FOTR loco I must visit this MTE and see what I can pick up there. Kevin has been threatening to take me there for ages - I think I need to take him up on that!

Its quite odd because I have also been looking for N-Gauge stuff for ages, and within 2 months have literally ended up with 2 sets. How compatible the 2 are remains to be seen. If you do decide to visit MTE make sure to leave your credit card behind, or at least get a bond from the bank. At least you get to play trains with the real thing when you come down, I have to use my imagination (and make the noises too). I do however suspect buying locos in the UK would be cheaper there than here, so dont hedge your bets, and start saving those whatever currency they use in Sudan anyway.

Funnily enough not much cheaper in the UK. But FAR FAR more expensive in Holland and also Germany (where much of the stuff is made). Figure that!
