The police have issued a warning after a number of railway detonators were stolen from the train line in Belfast city centre.

The detonators, which are small, round, yellow discs, are used as an emergency warning device.

They were taken from the line near Bridge End station between 2240 BST on Friday and 0500 BST on Saturday.

The police said they could cause serious injury and should not be touched.

A police spokesman said: "They are dangerous and could cause serious injury if used inappropriately. The police would also warn members of the public that these detonators should not be handled."

They have appealed for information.
