A 92-year-old Somerset station master has been appointed MBE for her services to the rail industry in the county.

Iris Horn from Taunton still runs Stogumber Railway Station, after having moved there with her husband following World War II.

A railway spokesman said she had seen the station though the Great Western days, ending in 1971, through to the West Somerset Railway.

"She has turned the station into a real visitor attraction," he said...

A friend of mine who lives near there and who has met the old lady sent me this article, and adds:
And the Red Lion at Stogumber does a good Sunday lunch. Plus there's a "green Man" carved in stone in the parish church, just to prove that paganism isn't dead in Zummerzet. You would enjoy the West Somerset Railway!
