Going through a red signal

Post by allanroy »

This afternoon I was watching the Metro's on the Simons Town route between Simons Town and Fish hoek which is a single track section. They seemed to be problem with the signals all day due to the storm. The train had stop at a signal and started going and I noticed the next signal was red so I assumed that it woud stop, but it kept going.

Are the Metro's in radio contact and would they get cleared through if there are problems with the signals.

It is quite likely that the driver called CTC. He would be given an authority to proceed to a signal ahead, identified by a particular code. This signal would be an absolute stop signal. This could also be a multiple-authority. It depends upon the type of section.
