Metro traffic jam

Post by allanroy »

Cape Town was hit by a major storm last night with thunder and lightning. The sea is very rough and I am sure the trains are getting a good wash on the Simons Town line today.
This morning I saw something that I have never seen before, metro rail traffic jam. Between Clovelly and Kalk Bay 3 metro trains stationary at red signals right behind each other and a 4th sitting in kalk bay station waiting. Passengers where leaving the trains and walking to Fish Hoek. Seems the storm has caused chaos on the metro system this morning.

Quite surprised to hear its only sand - the front page of this morning's Mercury has a spectacular picture of an 8m wave crashing over the breakwater at Kalk Bay Harbour!!

No big waves seemed to be going over the tracks. The wind peaked at 2am at 120kmh and even the main road in Fish hoek was partly covered in sand and the railway is between the road and beach.
