Night the rush-hour turned raunchy: Sound of couple having sex broadcast over station speakers

It certainly makes a change from hearing that your train will be delayed.

The sound of a couple making love was broadcast over a loudspeaker system at a station on Thursday.

Dozens of commuters used to hearing announcements about leaves on the line listened to the unusual message during evening rush hour at West Ham, East London, on Thursday.

Transport for London confirmed that a broadcast of 'sexual noises' was heard through the speakers. It said

the sounds had nothing to do with any of its staff and came from outside Tube property.

Receptionist Laura O'Connor, 28, who was heading home on the District line, said: 'We stopped at West Ham at about

6.45pm. As the doors opened, I heard strange noises over the loudspeaker.

'It was definitely a couple doing it there and then. He was grunting loudly and she sounded like she was having a great time.

'The driver must have heard it too, as the doors stayed open longer than usual,' she added.

Commuter Ian McFee, 35, who was waiting for his c2c train to Southend in Essex, said: 'A lot of people gathered round the speakers on the platform. No-one seemed offended. Everyone was just smirking.'

'We are looking into this,' a TfL spokesman said. 'Somehow this has got on to the public address system on the platform. We want to make sure this does not happen again.'

He added that the matter had been brought to their attention when one passenger complained to their helpline.

One theory is that the encounter was the soundtrack from a pornographic film.

The TfL spokesman said the situation had probably come about because someone had been transmitting the soundtrack near to the station and the PA system had picked up the frequency and relayed the signal.
