2010 FOTR/Gautrain challenge

Post by John Ashworth »

From the sar-L Yahoo group:
Richard Gillatt wrote:Now how is this for some forward planning. What about FOTR arranging with
Gautrain for opening day of the Tswhane area to have the Gautrain and a FOTR
double header run alongside one another where the lines run along side one
another between Loftus and Rissik stations. Also on the bridges over the R21
just outside Pretoria station. Is this just a pipedream or could FOTR make it a
reality??????

This has been discussed with Arno some time ago. The suggested "launch" area would be at Hatfield and with ribbon breaking and simultaneous departure, this is rail history.

FOTR did the launch of the new Pretoria station after the fire with 15F 3094 and a Metro set on platform 2/3 almost getting the simulaneous arrival and tape breaking right. Lots of detonators going off.
Fireman Mike Haslam and Driver Cliff Petzer had the honours.

We have to repeat this. Kev and Arno, any conatcts to get this to happen, please go for it!

What an excellent idea. I support it. Not sure when Gautrain will be completed through to Hatfield, but think it will only be late 2010 or early 2011.
