A delightful poster by LNER (London North East Railways) advertising the UK East Coast!
I actually enjoy railway posters - they provide interesting social and technical information from the relevant periods, as well as often also being true works of art.
I will put up a few over time that should be of interest......

Compare this to the new Metrorail poster about the latest Business Express...
PDF Poster, if you get a time out error, it helps if the link is copied into the "file name" field of Adobe reader "open file" option.

Hummmmmmmmmmm.
Hardly art is it? Could have been though - the graphics are nice but cluttered by the little photos and overpowered by all that boring text.
Notice the difference in meaning and impact caused by the approach.
In the beach poster the picture conveys the message - very little text is needed. In the Metro poster there is little confidence in graphics conveying the message - hence the need for all the text. Which they hope will convince you if you read it all. Unlikely! Some of the WWII posters, beaurocratically produced are a bit like this.
For a graphic Metro poster it needs something like the interior of the express, one passenger relaxed, working maybe, glancing out of the window at the speeding scenery - bumper to bumper traffic....... In a chunkey modern watercolour style. With a one liner - somelike Relax with the Business Metro, smaller letters - Contact.........
