15F No 3046 steam-tested at Reefsteamers

Congratulations from Friends of the Rail to all involved at Reefsteamers on the succesful steam-testing ofClass 15F No 3046 on Friday, April 9th.

RS's Lee Gates reports as follows:
Hi everyone,

Our long-idle Class 15F No. 3046 was successfully steam-tested on Friday afternoon. Yeah, there are a few issues with some leaks and some inferior gasket material was causing trouble – but the basics are sound and the safety valves were successfully calibrated. It was her first fire in 18 years and considering the engine’s pipe work and fittings were completed with a mixture of old and borrowed parts, as well as old borrowed parts, she actually did very well indeed.

Was on the trip to Magalies with Her on Sunday. Great time had by my whole family. Enjoyed the long trip home:-)

Henry, that was your first post to this forum, I believe. Welcome and may you enjoy the content so much that you post many more.

Not yet. I was brought up on SAR as my Dad in the 50 & 60'ies worked in the System managers office in PE. Most of my childhood holidays were on the train as he used to get free passes. Travelled to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe Ruins, through Botswana length of SA via Cape Town and returned along the Garden Route. All great memories. I have to now try and give something back.

Henry I remember those Rhodesian trips well. We traveled from Cape Town up. Also doing the Vic Falls and right up to Salisbury. Good Garrat memories.
